May 20 - Day 9

Today is our one full day in Lagos. We had another beautiful breakfast in the hotel and I ate very little but the food is delicious.

We are scheduled for a coastal cruise this morning. We had two motor boats for our group. The boat was a small motor boat but we enjoyed the ride very much. The boat wove in and out of the cliff formations. Very beautiful.

After the boat ride, we boarded the bus and drove to the Cabo San Vincent Lighthouse. This is the furthest southwestern point in Europe. My, oh my. The views were jaw dropping with towering steep cliffs and the ocean waves crashing below.

We then drove to Sagres Fort. We went through the museum there. Portugal was instrumental in starting the discoveries in the world through ship travel and initiating the trade that changed the world. They were also the ones who started slave trade which then spread throughout the world. Not a pretty part of their history, or ours for that matter. More beautiful views here of the cliffs and ocean.

Back to Lagos, we enjoyed lunch at a waterfront restaurant with Barbara. We walked around the streets and along the water. The beaches are absolutely incredible here. So beautiful. But it is way too cold to even think about getting wet. We stopped and had Sangria and Apple Crumble at an interesting garden restaurant. Enjoyable but I felt the most inebriated I have on this trip. I have been drinking way more than I am accustomed to doing. I was a bit dizzy for about a half hour.

We were all feeling tired and headed back to the hotel. Matt and I laid down and took a short nap. Barbara sent me a text saying she wasn't feeling well and wanted to stay in her room.

Matt and I dressed up a bit and headed back into town. We stopped poolside and had a drink first - nothing alcoholic! We had free coupons for drinks because we opted out of housekeeping service. Can't let those go to waste. Especially not Matt!

For our dinner out, Matt got grilled shrimp which he wanted to try and I got Peri Peri chicken which I wanted to try! Loads of fun although I am freezing because I have a skirt, bare legs and am wearing sandals. But nevertheless, we stopped for ice cream!

Finally into bed. What a fun day.
